Southwest Airlines has been voted the best employer in America by Forbes, marking the eighth time that they have received this award.
Forbes partnered with Statista to select 2023 America’s Best Employers through an independent survey from a sample of more than 45,000 American employees working for large or midsize companies.
Survey participants were asked to anonymously rate their willingness to recommend their employers to friends and family.
Employee evaluations also included other employers in their respective industries that stood out positively or negatively.
The survey has been conducted on companies across 25 industry sectors employing more than 1,000 employees in the United States.
Commenting on this accolade was Lindsey Lang, the VP of People at Southwest Airlines:
“We’ve recruited, hired, and trained more Employees over the last year than ever in our history, and we’re dedicated to maintaining our People-first Culture as we continue to welcome new Cohearts to the Company”.
“It’s only possible because of the Employees who serve our Customers—and one another—with Southwest Heart and Hospitality.”
Within their statements, Southwest Airlines encouraged the public to look on its careers site for vacancies near them.
Full of Accolades in 2023 for Southwest Airlines?
2023 has been a good start for Southwest Airlines, who have been raking in accolades over the course of this year.
Back in February, the airline was named on FORTUNE’s 2023 list of the World’s Most Admired Companies.
The US low-cost carrier ranked No. 23 overall and No. 3 on the airline industry list, improving its ranking from FORTUNE’s 2022 list. Southwest has been featured consistently on the World’s Most Admired Companies list since 2009.
“It’s truly an honor for Southwest Airlines to be among FORTUNE’s World’s Most Admired Companies this year,” said Southwest Airlines President & CEO Bob Jordan.
“We consider this a recognition of our strong brand, our terrific Employees, and the extraordinary ways they serve each other and our Customers.”
Southwest Airlines’ recent struggles
Southwest Airlines started off the year 2023 on the back foot. A meltdown of what was characterized as an archaic operational software system resulted in pandemonium when inclement weather conditions resulted in mass operational delays.
In mid-January, the carrier offered the following statement:
“During the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, our Customers and Employees–including some of you–endured operational issues that greatly disrupted holiday and end-of-year plans.”
“We want you to know that we are making every effort to prevent that from happening again.”
“Emerging from some of the most challenging days in our Company’s history, we are highly focused on our Customers, our recovery, and our plan going forward.”
It remains clear that the airline is doing its utmost to recover from previous short-haul struggles, as such repair is vital for further success ahead of the Summer 2023 schedule.
For now, all eyes are on Southwest Airlines to see how much further they can take this.
